Trust News Monday 4 September 2023 Spires Academy GCSE success! At Spires Academy, we are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students who collected their GCSE results last month. In what has been the toughest year for GCSE exams since the pandemic, our Year 11 students have shown extraordinary resilience and determination. The results they have achieved will see them go on to a wide range of courses and next steps, including grammar and non-selective sixth forms, college course and apprenticeships.

Trust News Friday 1 September 2023 Statement regarding RAAC You may have read the news that the Department for Education has ordered over 100 schools to close buildings due to the presence of RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete). We wanted to reassure you that we reviewed the buildings in the trust last year when the DfE first raised this issue. This initial review found no likelihood of RAAC, however we are carrying out deeper inspections at several schools, and continuing to monitor the situation, in order to ascertain the precise situation. We will update you should our assessment change.

Trust News Wednesday 3 May 2023 Coopers School celebrates continued 'good' rating in latest Ofsted Inspection Coopers School is thrilled to announce that it has once again received a 'good' rating in its latest Ofsted inspection. The inspection, which took place on the 8th and 9th of March 2023, praised the school for its safe and respectful environment for pupils. The report highlighted several areas of strength for Coopers School, including its ambitious curriculum, strong subject knowledge among staff, and focus on developing students' leadership skills through enrichment activities. Additionally, the school's safeguarding arrangements were found to be effective, and pupils were deemed well-prepared for their next stage of education. While the report identified areas for further development, Coopers School and trust leaders are dedicated to addressing these and continuing to provide the highest quality education for all our young people. Trust News Thursday 23 March 2023 Science Week at Blenheim Primary School Last week, Blenheim Primary School held its annual Science Week, which was a huge success. The theme for this year's Science Week was "connections," and the school's students explored various scientific concepts related to this theme.

Trust News Tuesday 21 March 2023 Science Week at Scotts Park Primary Last week, Scotts Park Primary hosted a range of activities in celebration of Science Week, centred around the theme of 'connections'. The week began with a school-wide assembly, followed by a whole school home learning task from the BSW primary pack, with entries due to be submitted at the end of the month. Students were also encouraged to create posters on the theme of connections in science.

Friday 26 August 2022 GCSE Results 2022 Students at Spires Academy have been collecting their GCSE and BTEC results today (Thursday 25 August). This is the first full programme of examinations since 2019.

Wednesday 8 June 2022 Demonstrating Care Values for Health & Social Care “As part of their BTEC course, Year 10 Health and Social Care students organised arts and crafts activities for Year 7 students from St Nicholas School, Canterbury. As part of their Assignment, students demonstrated the core care values in health and social care, including effective communication, showing respect, preserving dignity and empowering and promoting independence. It was an enjoyable event for all concerned!”

Monday 9 May 2022 Silver at the World Team Cup Ruben Harris has just helped the Great Britain Junior Team to win the silver medal at the World Team Cup. This is equivalent to the Davis Cup in wheelchair tennis.

Friday 29 April 2022 Year 10 meet Gerald Dickens Year 10 students are studying Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol for their English Literature GCSE, and to aid their understanding of the plot, characters and context, Gerald Dickens provided the students with a dramatic performance of the novella. Gerald’s theatrical work follows in the footsteps of his great-great-grandfather, Charles Dickens, who increased his fortune and popularity by performing dramatic readings of his work. Gerald spared some time at the end of his performance for a Q&A session with the students.

Friday 29 April 2022 Great Great Grandson of Charles Dickens Meets the Drood Dudes. Gerald Dickens, the great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens, paid a visit to Spires Academy to meet with the Drood Dudes. The Drood Dudes are members of the Spires Dickens Society ranging from years 8-11, and they have been tasked with writing the end of The Mystery of Edwin Drood – the last book that Charles Dickens wrote but never finished before he died. We meet once a week during a Thursday lunchtime, and the students work together on creating a Victorian-style plot that will unveil the mystery of Edwin Drood. So far, their submitted work has been impressive – you can read a small extract from it on Gerald’s blog, in which he comments on his visit to Spires Academy.
