Market Garden

On the 29th May 2014 work started on the Market Garden Project.  Spires Academy received funding from the National Lottery, St Nicholas School and Nu Steps Ltd to construct and develop a market garden that will be used by students from Spires Academy, St Nicholas School and Nu Steps Ltd.


On the 2nd June 2014 Kent County Surfaces started work on the area, constructing a wheel chair access path and preparing a central planting area using raised beds.  Canterbury Garden Centre have provided materials and advice, they have also kindly donated seeds for the garden.


On the 9th June 2014 students from Nu Steps Ltd started work on building the benches while Kent County Surfaces continue their work and have started laying the tarmac surface for the access path.


In September 2015 our Food Technology teacher Nina Newbold set up a Gardening Club, they have been very busy during the school year, looking after the garden and growing fruit & vegetables for use within Food Technology lessons and the Academy canteen.
