Spires Academy and The King’s School work in partnership to provide Yr7 Spires Academy students an opportunity to take part in a project that familiarises them with Canterbury Cathedral.
Over the course of a term, the students have toured the Cathedral, the cloisters and grounds. They have met members of the cathedral workforce from stonemasons to gardeners and Virgirs. They have had a behind-the-scenes visit to the Cathedral Archives, allowing them access to some of the oldest illuminated manuscripts. The final session of their visits involved a creative session where they had the chance to design and paint their own heraldic shield, inspired by those they have seen in and around the Cathedral.
We like to invite a parent/carer to join each of the young people involved in the project, as they give you a tour of the Cathedral and show you what they have learnt. Afterwards there will be refreshments on the Lattergate Lawn at The King’s School.
Please note: You would need to make your own way to the King’s School, meeting at the Mint Yard Gate (CT1 2EZ) at 12.55pm, with the session aiming to finish by 2.30pm. The closest available parking is at St Radigund’s Car Park.
If you do attend with your child, you will be able to take them home with you once the event finishes.
