Day 31 of COVID 19 shutdown @ Spires Academy

VE Day (Friday 8th May 2020)

Today would usually be May Bank Holiday being the first Monday in the month but to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day the Bank Holiday was moved to this Friday 8 May 2020.
 
VE Day stands for Victory in Europe Day which took place on Tuesday, May 8, 1945. It was the day on which allied forces announced the surrender of Germany in Europe. It marked the end of Adolf Hitler's war and sparked celebrations around the world.
 
We are being encouraged to enjoy a Stay at Home Party on Friday by:
  • decorating the outside of our homes to demonstrate national pride
  • observing a 2 minutes silence at 11am
  • raising a toast to our heroes at 3pm
The Queen will also make a speech, addressing the nation at 9pm, which is the same time 75 years ago that her father, King George VI, gave a radio address to mark the end of the fighting with Germany in 1945.
