This morning, six students from St. Nicholas’ School visited the Design Technology workshop to finish and assemble three free-standing coat hooks for their classrooms.

Spires Academy were going to skip three old gymnastic benches that were originally part of the old school dating from the 1950s. Mr Gregory, teacher of DT and Mr Clifford, DT Technician, decided to up-cycle the benches along with some other solid timbers that had been rescued from a skip.

The students received a Health & Safety talk before starting to sand down the shortened gymnastic benches and the oak upright. The next stage was to insert the wooden dowel pegs and secure them to the upright using a battery operated screwdriver. Finally The upright was secured to the shortened gymnastic bench with brackets and longer screws.

The 6 students really enjoyed themselves and thanked Mr Gregory and Mr Clifford for their time and the use of the workshop.
