Triumph for Spires Gymnastics Team in the National FinalsPosted on: 02/04/2019
Spires Academy gymnasts impressed judges at the British Schools Gymnastics final where they excelled in a national competition.
High-flying Phoebe Blair, 14, Chelsea Grant, 14 and Adrian Starczewsk, 12, came third in the country in the mixed trio contest held at Fenton Manor, Stoke-on-Trent last weekend March 16-17.
The trio took part in the under-16s final where they performed floor work, vault and a group routine. Blair said: “We were able to show off all our skills in the routine and had to be in sync with each other and work together to make it perfect. We performed round offs, spins, cartwheels and balances.”
Nicky Lewis, Spires’ head of sports development said: “The Spires trio came third in the entire country and it’s one of the greatest achievements in the sport that I have seen at the school.
“Team members worked incredibly hard all year and overcame setbacks to showcase their national credentials in front of the top flight in the world of gymnastics.”
Sturry-based Spires Academy offers elite gymnastics training in partnership with Canterbury Gymnastics Club and it is one of six sporting academies at the school, which include golf and football.
Mr Lewis said: “This latest achievement is a testament to the success of our sporting academies and I would like to thank Canterbury Gymnastics for the club’s hard work and support.”
