Spires and Canterbury FC Announce Football Academy PartnershipPosted on: 05/02/2019
Nicki Mattin, Principal of Spires Academy, the benefits of a link with a strong, ambitious club such as Canterbury City FC is incredibly exciting. It raises aspirations not only across our Academy but also the Canterbury local community. Our combined expertise with regards supporting talented young people will see students receive high quality education provision from the specialists at Spires Academy alongside top quality coaching. This will enable development of a strong youth squad and continue to build on the recent success of Canterbury City FC. The programme will include not only football development but also a broadening community outreach programme in primary schools. Our mutual link with Canterbury Christ Church University will enable students to have a pathway into higher education as a compliment to their football ambitions.
The opportunity to grow and create a programme that draws the local community closer is exciting.
If Canterbury City FC ground is able to proceed into development, the benefits of having a strong partnership between the Football Club and Spires Academy will impact on the life chances of the young people within the community for years to come.
On the news City Chairman Tim Clark said “This is an incredibly important announcement. As a Community Club this is exactly what we should be involved in and if we can make our Football Hub a reality at Tuesday night’s planning committee meeting then this Football Academy will be up and running from our new facility within 18 months making an almost immediate and positive impact on young lives locally. This is just the start of how we intend to make a real difference in our local community!”.
