Crystal Palace under-16 ladies’ captain Megan Pearce has taken her team to a league title with two games remaining.
Pearce, a member of Spires Academy’s elite football academy, has captained the side for two seasons and the unbeaten squad have won the Surrey County Women and Girls League.
The ex-Sturry Kings and Thanet Colts player said: “We are unbeaten after 14 games and although we have two games left to play no one can catch us.”
Pearce’s Crystal Palace Ladies FC (CPLFC) biography describes her as a free kick specialist who is “blessed with great vision and the confidence to attempt a difficult pass, she can quickly turn defence into attack.”
She said: “The pressure is on when you’re winning games because the expectations are so high, but the girls have worked so hard and got on with it and really deserve the victory.”
The 16-year-old who combines football training at Spires Academy alongside studying for her GCSE’s says the academy’s elite coaching programme has played a key role in sharpening her skills.
Nicky Lewis, head of sports development at Spires Academy said: “Megan has great ability and her progress at Spires’ football academy has been rapid. Last year she captained the CPLFC side that won the FA national futsal title and this latest win reinforces what a fantastic player she is. Everyone at Spires Academy is very proud of Megan’s achievements.”
